A learning activity are designed by the teacher for the students to act into a learning situation. Through a learning activity students are engaged in learning through acting upon learning. The activity may span from doing a literature review, or searching the Web for finding information to developing tangible products individually or collaboratively.
Learning activities are part of a more holistic learning design architecture that teachers employ for designing how teaching and learning will be represented and visualised. Questions such as how I will design this activity or how the activity will help students to achieve an intended learning outcome are questions that may help teachers to design learning activities that are aligned to objectives and outcomes. |
The design of learning activities is often related with and associated to prior learning activities as to create a relationship between different learning activities and different learning outcomes. Also activities need to consider what the student already knows as to accommodate students past experiences with the activity at hand. The sequence or the timing of the activity is critical to be considered as to when it is going to be enacted and how it will be connected with the subject content. Learning activities are premised to viewing learning as an active process where students construct their own learning in different ways based on their own experiences and interests.
