Learning from mistakes

Making mistakes and learning how to correct them is indeed a positive and constructive learning process. Mistakes are perceived as an opportunity for development and growth. When we think about what caused the mistake or something that hasn't worked then new cognitive schemata are created along with synaptic connections that help us learn and make the brain to grow. High value should be placed on mistakes therefore and we should not perceive them as failures. A mistake-rich environment is high preferable as it may lead to self-understanding and higher-truth. In fact not making mistakes may be a something counter-productive to learning as it may mean that the learner does not act in a way that it will allow them to identify mistakes and correct them.

A growth-mindset accepts that mistakes exist for learners to identify them and correct them and as a result are viewed as a prerequisite to learn and develop. A growth mindset therefore accepts mistakes as opportunities for learning and development that brings new learning experiences to explore and investigate.
