Find the synonyms/ categories
This is an exercise aimed at expanding vocabulary. Can be modified to fit any level and theme. The example features adjectives. Could also be used with categories. E.g.: Types of dogs/ birds/ monkeys/ fish, etc. Things found in the bedroom/ kitchen/ bathroom etc.
Could be done with pictures too.
Time:
• 15-20 minutes.
Type of activity:
• Word puzzle.
Preparation:
• Create a table with key words and synonyms. See example.
• Print, laminate and cut out the words.
Method:
• Hand out the puzzles.
• Ask the student to categorize the synonyms starting with the key words.
• Dictionary use is encouraged.
